Disney World Fishing: A Family’s Guide to Angling Adventures at the Most Magical Place on Earth + Full Review of Guided Bass Fishing Tour

Last Updated on January 7, 2025 by Allison Lancaster

When most people think about Walt Disney World, they picture thrilling rides, enchanting characters, and magical fireworks. But here’s a little secret we’ve uncovered over the years: some of the best memories can be made out on Disney’s peaceful lakes, fishing poles in hand. Our family has taken over 15 guided bass fishing tours at Walt Disney World Resort in the past three years, and let me tell you—it’s become one of our absolute favorite things to do there. It’s relaxing, fun, and a totally unique way to experience Disney.

Why We’re Hooked on Guided Bass Fishing Tours

If you’ve never thought about fishing at Disney, let me paint you a picture. Imagine being out on a boat, the sun just starting to rise, with the calm waters of Bay Lake or Seven Seas Lagoon stretching out before you. Off in the distance, you might see Cinderella’s Castle or catch a glimpse of Space Mountain. Then, there’s the thrill of feeling that tug on your line and reeling in a big, beautiful bass. It’s magical in a totally different way than the parks—and just as memorable.

Here’s why our family keeps coming back for more guided bass fishing excursions at Walt Disney World:

  1. The Guides Are Amazing: Every single guide we’ve had has been incredible. They’re friendly, patient (especially with our kids!), and they know all the best spots to fish. They’ve taught us so much, from how to cast properly to the habits of bass in the lakes. Plus, they’re just fun to be around. They also know a lot of fun facts about Disney and share their experiences working for Disney…everything from their favorite restaurants to favorite ‘secret’ fishing spots!
  2. The Views Can’t Be Beat: Whether it’s the peacefulness of Bay Lake or the iconic backdrop of Cinderella Castle, the scenery is breathtaking. It’s a side of Disney you don’t usually see, and it makes the experience feel so special. My absolute favorite view was the sunrise one morning leaving the Contemporary Resort. Breathtaking!!
  3. It’s Perfect for the Whole Family: Fishing at Disney is something everyone can enjoy. Our kids love the excitement of catching fish (and naming them before releasing them back!), and we love the chance to relax and enjoy some quiet time together. It’s such a refreshing change of pace from the busy parks. If you’re staying at one of the resorts around the lake, they’ll even pick you up at your resort!
  4. The Fishing Is Fantastic: Let’s be honest—the fishing itself is a blast. Disney’s lakes are stocked with largemouth bass, and we’ve had amazing luck catching some really impressive ones. It’s catch-and-release, so there’s no pressure, just the thrill of the catch.

What to Expect on a Guided Fishing Tour

Each tour comes with everything you need: a pontoon boat, a friendly guide, top-notch fishing equipment, and bait. The guides also bring a cooler fully stocked with Coca-Cola products & water, which is really nice for those super hot days.

You can choose between a two-hour or four-hour trip, depending on how much time you want to spend on the water. The boats can accommodate up to five people, which is perfect for families or small groups.

We’ve found that the early morning tours are the best. Not only is it cooler (Florida heat is no joke), but the fish are more active at that time. That said, we’ve caught plenty of fish on afternoon trips too. No matter when you go, you’re in for a great time.

They also have Nitro boat options if you’re more adventurous but for our family, the pontoon boats have been our favorite over the years.

Dockside Fishing: A Laid-Back Alternative

If a guided tour isn’t your thing, or if you just want a simpler option, dockside fishing is another great choice. This is a more casual way to fish, and it’s especially great for younger kids or anyone who’s new to fishing.

Where to Go Dockside Fishing

  1. Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside: The Fishin’ Hole at Ol’ Man Island is a cute little spot that’s perfect for a relaxing afternoon. They’ve got cane poles and bait for rent, and the waters are well-stocked. It’s got a charming, old-fashioned feel that’s hard to resist.
  2. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground: Over at Fort Wilderness, you can rent fishing gear at the Bike Barn and fish in the resort’s peaceful waterways. This spot has such a rustic, outdoorsy vibe, and it’s a beautiful place to spend some quiet time.

Both locations are catch-and-release, so you can fish to your heart’s content without worrying about taking anything home (besides great memories, of course).

Tips for a Magical Fishing Experience

If you’re thinking about giving Disney World fishing a try, here are a few tips to make your day as magical as possible:

  1. Book Early: The guided tours can fill up quickly, especially during busy times of the year. Be sure to book ahead (60 days out from your check in date) so you don’t miss out.
  2. Dress for the Weather: Florida can be hot, sunny, rainy, or all of the above in one day. Wear lightweight clothes, bring a hat and sunglasses, and don’t forget sunscreen. Comfortable shoes are a must, too. The guides will do their best to keep you comfortable but be sure you dress appropriately as well.
  3. Bring Snacks and Drinks: While the guides bring drinks on the tours, you can also bring your own snacks. We’ve never needed to bring snacks as we’re usually to enthralled with fishing.
  4. Be Patient: Fishing isn’t always about catching fish—sometimes it’s about soaking in the quiet, enjoying the company of your family, and appreciating the beauty around you. Take your time and savor the experience.
  5. Respect the Rules: Since all fishing at Disney is catch-and-release, handle the fish gently and follow your guide’s instructions to ensure the fish are returned to the water safely.

Why Fishing at Disney World Is So Special

For us, fishing at Disney has become a tradition—one that’s just as exciting as riding Space Mountain or watching the fireworks. It’s a chance to slow down, connect with each other, and experience the magic of Disney in a totally different way. Whether we’re on a guided boat tour or fishing dockside at one of the resorts, every trip has been filled with laughter, excitement, and unforgettable moments.

If you’re planning a Disney vacation, I can’t recommend adding a fishing excursion enough. It’s something that’s fun for all ages, easy to fit into your schedule, and guaranteed to leave you with wonderful memories. Who knows—it might even become a new tradition for your family, just like it has for ours.

So, grab a pole, cast a line, and get ready to reel in some Disney magic. Happy fishing!
