How to Make a Simple Christmas Tree Charcuterie Board

  1. Using a shot glass, create 2 pepperoni roses by folding a pepperoni onto the shot glass and then overlapping the previous pepperoni with a new one. Repeat with another 4-6 slices until you cannot fit anymore inside your glass. Then flip the glass over and remove the rose from the glass.
  2. Create a Christmas tree using cheeses, roses, & crackers.
  3. Separate the layers of the tree with the rosemary.
  4. Use the olives to create tree ornaments.
  5. Serve with a baguette.

Best Charcuterie Meat Options:

It’s no surprise that there is a vast list of meats that you can use to make your Christmas Tree Charcuterie Board, but here are a few of my favorites:

Capicola: This dry-cured meat is a great addition to your char board, and you can use your leftovers to make delicious Italian grinders. It’s salty yet savory and pairs well with cheddar and or olives.

Genoa Salami: If you look up deli meats for a charcuterie board, you are sure to find salami. It’s dry-cured and full of flavors and spices. It has a bold flavor and pairs well with gouda cheese and gherkins.

Pancetta: You can purchase presliced pancetta at most grocery stores, but I recommend going to the deli and having them slice it fresh for you. A lot of people compare pancetta to bacon because of its salt content and spices.

Pepperoni: I recommend skipping over the presliced bagged pepperoni and using a higher grade for a charcuterie board. This zesty meat is perfect for creating meat roses for your board. I will opt for a larger pepperoni if you’re planning on making flowers.

Prosciutto: This savory meat is typically served paper thin, which makes a great addition to any charcuterie board. The buttery flavor of this meat almost melts in your mouth.

Where do I find Prosciutto? You can find prosciutto in most grocery stores in the deli section. It pairs perfectly with fresh mozzarella or parmesan cheese.

Summer Sausage: This smoky meat is the perfect addition to any charcuterie board. It does not require refrigeration, so no worries if you keep your board out a little too long!

Pro Tip: I like to slice the summer sausage so that it is easier for my guests to snack on. Pair it with cheddar cheese, tiny pickles, and crackers.

Best Charcuterie Cheese Options:

The other main component of a perfect charcuterie board is the cheese. There are plenty of soft and hard cheeses to add to your board.

Keep in mind some may need to be served cold and others at room temperature.

Be sure to add some cheese knives for your soft cheeses.

Brie: Brie is a soft cow’s milk cheese with a creamy texture and nutty flavor. Pair this buttery cheese with meat on your next board, or you could pair it with a jam for something a little sweeter.

Be sure to serve brie at room temperature, and don’t worry about the rind; it is 100% edible!

Cheddar: There are a few different types of cheddar, like white or orange, but both are hard cheese. I prefer to use extra sharp cheddar cheeses on my board.

It pairs well with salami, pepperoni, crackers, and many fruits, making it the perfect versatile cheese to add to your board.

Goat Cheese: Goat cheese comes in a wide variety of different flavors. Its creamy and soft texture pairs well with its naturally sweet and tangy flavors, allowing it to pair well with many different kinds of bread. You can even put a little honey over it for additional sweetness.

Mozzarella: The perfect addition to a holiday charcuterie board, mozzarella cheese is versatile and pairs perfectly with different meats and fruits. This fresh and light cheese is made from cow’s milk and kept in a liquid to keep it from drying out, making it a delicious soft cheese.

Where do I find Mozzarella? You can find it in the deli section of your local grocery store.

Parmesan: This aged Italian cheese is hard, crumbly, and has a nutty and savory flavor. It is a perfect cheese to snack on by itself or paired with prosciutto and fruit.

This is also a great cheese to serve when sipping wine at your next Christmas dinner.

Swiss: This hard cow’s milk cheese is mild with a nutty and sweet flavor. It stands out in the crowd because of its large holes (called eyes) in it.

Swiss does great with cured meats, crackers, and even pretzel sticks.

Charcuterie Board FAQ’s:

What to Put on a Christmas Tree Charcuterie Board:

The best part about charcuterie boards is that you can fill them with almost anything. Some people opt for green olives, cherry tomatoes, and dried fruit, while others opt for things such as cheddar cheese, mozzarella balls, and red grapes. You can be as creative as you like while building your holiday-themed boards to create your own unique design!

Can you use a cutting board for a charcuterie board?

Absolutely! In fact, this is our favorite way to build a charcuterie board. You don’t have to go out and purchase a new cutting board, but if you are in the market for one, here are our favorites: Traditional Platter or a Large Rectangular Platter, but if you’re looking for something more holiday-themed, try out this Tree Shape Serving Board.
