Peanut Butter Protein Bites
Last Updated on January 20, 2024 by Allison Lancaster
Our family is focused on getting healthier this year and that means rethinking the way we snack. One of my favorite healthy snack recipes are these peanut butter protein bites. They are a great alternative to peanut butter cookies and are a healthy choice for an on-the-go breakfast or after school treat.
Peanut Butter Balls
The other afternoon, I was on a ‘cooking spree’ and I really wanted to bake some peanut butter cookies. I am a HUGE peanut butter fan. Unfortunately, peanut butter cookies aren’t considered a healthy snack, even if they are one of my favorite foods!
I started thinking about how I could make them healthier and that’s when the idea for peanut butter protein bites was born!
How To Make Peanut Butter Energy Balls
These little balls of peanut buttery goodness are packed with fiber, thanks to the addition of flax seed. They are also gluten free and can easily be made with extra protein by using a high-quality protein powder.
Making peanut butter balls is so easy you can whip up a batch in just a few minutes, even with help from the kids. My little ones love rolling the dough into balls and then placing them in individual Ziplocs so we can grab them on the run.
Peanut Butter Balls Recipe Variations
There are so many delicious and healthy ways you can change up this peanut butter ball recipe to suit your family’s needs and tastes. Here are a few favorites we’ve tried:
- Chocolate peanut butter balls – Add semi-sweet chocolate chips to the dough before rolling into balls.
- Honey peanut butter balls – Add a bit of honey to the mixture for a healthy sweet option
- Coconut peanut butter balls – Roll the finished peanut butter balls in shredded coconut for a sweet and crunchy coating.
So have fun in the kitchen and create your own peanut butter protein bites for a healthy, quick snack option today!

We love peanut butter! I will have to try these, they look delicious!
Yum! Protein bites are one of my favorite snacks! Delicious and healthy!!
Thanks!
I know its not related to your recipe but those hydrangeas look so pretty! They’re pretty much my favorite flower! I can’t wait for mine to bloom out this spring 🙂
What is the estimated calorie count on these? I am trying to find a recipe that isn’t so high in calories. This one should be lower since there are no added chocolate chips and other sugars that I’ve seen in some.
