Homeschooling Resources for Preschoolers
Last Updated on January 22, 2024 by Allison Lancaster
If you’re planning to homeschool your preschooler, you may be looking for resources to help make your job go more smoothly. Here are some of my favorite resources for homeschooling preschoolers!
If you are choosing to homeschool, you may be asking questions like: what curriculum should I use? Should learning still be fun at this age or more structured? Is there a happy compromise between the two? I think there is.
Check out our post on How To Start Homeschooling here.
Homeschool Life
One of the best things about homeschooling is that you can tailor your day to fit your family’s needs and rhythms. That said, it can still be helpful to have a general idea of what a homeschool day looks like.
A typical homeschool day in our house starts with breakfast and then some free play. Free play is important for young children because it allows them to explore and learn about the world around them in their own way and at their own pace.
After free play, we do some sort of group activity. This might be a lesson from our curriculum, reading a book together, or working on a project.
Then it’s time for lunch and more free play. In the afternoon, we might go for a walk, visit the library, or run errands. And then it’s time for dinner and family time in the evening.
Of course, every homeschooling family is different, and you may find that a different schedule works better for you. The important thing is to find what works for you and your family and go with it!
Preschool Homeschool Schedule
A preschool homeschool day looks a lot like a normal day. Because of their age, lesson time is shorter and there is more time for free play.
A typical homeschool day for a preschooler might look something like this:
7:30 – 8:00 am – breakfast
8:00 – 9:00 am – free play
9:00 – 9:30 am – circle time (songs, Fingerplays, books)
9:30 – 10:00 am – learning activity (counting, shapes, colors)
10:00 – 10:30 am – free play
10:30 – 11:00 am – snack time
11:00 am – 12:00 pm – outside time
12:00 – 1:00 pm – lunch
1:00 – 2:00 pm – free play
2:00 – 2:30 pm – story time
2:30 – 3:00 pm – art activity
3:00 – 3:30 pm – free play
3:30 – 4:00 pm – snacks and clean up
4:00 – 5:00 pm – family time
As you can see, a typical homeschool day for a preschooler is filled with plenty of free play and exploration time. This allows them to learn in their own way and at their own pace. And of course, there is always time for snacks!
