Spring Cleaning: The 5 Most Commonly Overlooked Areas

This post is sponsored by Jiffy Lube. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for helping me support the brands I love.

Spring is here! Can you tell I am excited? Spring means flowers, warmer weather, beautiful colors and yes…spring cleaning. While most people dread cleaning, I love spring cleaning. It’s a chance to renew and refresh. There are a million checklists out there that outline exactly what you need to clean during spring cleaning, but I have noticed that most of them forget 5 key items. Today, I’m excited to partner with Jiffy Lube to share the 5 areas most commonly missed during spring cleaning.

Garage– The garage can be one of the least organized areas of a home. Instead of allowing things to fall where they may, create zones throughout your garage for different storage needs – automotive accessories, yard tools, sporting equipment and other outdoor gear. In order to fit your vehicles comfortably in your garage, consider vertical storage options to optimize space. Hanging bicycles, winter sports equipment and tools that aren’t frequently used on the wall or ceiling of your garage can free up valuable floor space.

Garage Floor– So, you’ve cleaned your garage, but when was the last time you scrubbed your garage floor? Rent a pressure washer from your local hardware store if you don’t have one and pressure wash your floor! While you’re cleaning your garage floor, why not take your vehicle to Jiffy Lube for an oil change? They will ensure your vehicle is in top shape for the road ahead this spring!

Trash Bins- From your large outdoor can to the smaller trash bins in your house, give them a good cleaning. Spray them with your favorite cleaner, allow them to sit for 30-45 minutes and hose them down. Afterwards, let them sit out in the sun to dry out and spray them with a disinfectant cleaner before placing them back in your home.

China/Glassware/Flatware- We all have china, glassware and flatware that we only pull out on special occasions. Spring is the perfect time to pull those items out and give them a wash or polish!

Computer- While this isn’t necessarily an item you need to physically clean, spring is the perfect time to ‘clean’ out your computer. Delete old files, upload photos to a cloud location and delete them from your hard drive. While you’re at it, run your anti-virus software and defragment your disk drive. You’ll be surprised how much quicker it will run!

Don’t let spring cleaning stress you out. Tackle each item as you have time, or designate a few Saturdays to do the cleaning and enlist the help of your entire family. Afterwards, head to dinner or go out for ice cream as a reward.

Bonus! Don’t forget your vehicle! Recent survey data from Jiffy Lube found that we clean our homes a lot more frequently than our vehicles. Nearly nine-in- 10 car owners say they clean their homes at least weekly, if not daily, but only half can say the same about how often they clean their vehicles. Nearly a third admits they clean their vehicles a few times a year or less! I will be sharing some of my favorite tips for keeping your vehicle clean over the next few days.

As a busy mom, I’m thankful that Jiffy Lube is a one stop shop for my vehicle’s maintenance this spring. I’m also excited to announce that I’ve partnered with them to giveaway a $100 gift card to one of my readers! To enter, visit the form below:
