What is in These Valentine’s Day Treats?

ingredients for valentine's day chocolate covered pretzels
  • 15 Pretzel Rods – You can pick up a few bags of pretzels at the store, so that you can make several batches of these pretzels.
  • 1 12-Ounce Bag Pink Candy Melts – These are excellent to have on hand! These pink candy melts are awesome to make chocolate covered pretzels with!
  • Coconut Oil – You’ll need coconut oil to make these chocolate covered pretzels!
  • Valentine’s Day Sprinkle Mix – The sprinkles make these pretzels so festive, so make sure you grab plenty.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Pretzels

  1. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and cook on high for 3 minutes or until nice and smooth when stirred. Pause every 30 seconds or so to stir the candy melts so they don’t burn.
  3. Immediately add the coconut oil and stir until fully combined.
  4. Pour your chocolate into your tall cup or dipping container.
  5. Dip your pretzel rod into the cup until it’s about half covered. Give it a couple light taps on the side of the dish to remove excess chocolate.
  6. Lay it flat on the prepared sheet and immediately sprinkle with your sprinkle mix. Repeat with the rest of the pretzel rods.
  7. Allow to rest for 10 minutes or until hardened. Enjoy!

How Do I Not Make a Mess?

Make sure you don’t cover the whole pretzel with chocolate, because you will need a little room on the bottom for decorating! You can also have the kids wear plastic gloves so that they don’t make a mess on themselves.

How Do I Keep the Sprinkles from Falling Off?

You can keep the sprinkles from falling off by allowing the chocolate to slightly dry. Place the bigger sprinkles on the pretzel. You can also lightly top them on the almost dried chocolate. This will keep the sprinkles from falling off of the pretzel.

What Happens if the Chocolate Hardens as You’re Dipping Pretzels?

When the chocolate gets too hard, you can put it back in the microwave or add a little bit more coconut to the mixture and watch the chocolate melt again.

Notes

  • You’ll want to be careful to not cover the pretzel rod down too far with chocolate or it makes it a mess to hold it and eat it, especially for kiddos.
  • If you’re having trouble with your sprinkles sliding off, wait a minute or so for slight drying to occur and then place your bigger sprinkles carefully, then sprinkle the smaller portion of the sprinkles and it should stick just fine. You’ll get some sliding, but that’s ok, it helps cover the sides.
  • I took out the largest balls from the sprinkles for this recipe as they were just too big.
  • If your chocolate starts to get too thick when dipping, or even before, you can heat it back up for a few more seconds. If this doesn’t work, you can add just a touch more coconut oil and that should do it.
