How to Make The Cutest Easter Peeps Cupcakes Recipe

Prepare the cupcakes: To get started with the cutest Easter Peeps cupcakes recipe, in a large bowl, prepare the cupcake batter based on the recipe of your choice. Place cupcake liners in a cupcake pan, then divide batter accordingly. Bake cupcakes in the pre-heated oven. Meanwhile, make the frosting in while the cupcakes bakes and cools. Once the cupcakes are ready, allow them to cool in a wire rack to room temperature.
Color the frosting: Mix the food coloring with the frosting. Use green food coloring to make the frosting look more coherent with the shredded coconut grass once you start decorating. You can also use other food coloring (tip: use pastel colors) to match the other Easter Peeps bunnies and chicks you want to decorate your cupcakes with.
Tint the shredded coconut: In another small bowl or Ziploc bag, combine your remaining green food coloring and shredded coconut. Mix until combined thoroughly. The kids especially love helping color the coconut grass by shaking up the bag (or two if they each want to help) so make this a fun activity to help them feel involved.
Frost cupcakes: Carefully add a layer of green frosting to the top of the cupcakes, smoothing it with a spatula. Alternatively, if you want a neater-looking frosting on top of each cupcake, use a piping bag. You can even make variations to The Cutest Easter Peeps Cupcakes Recipe by attaching a large star tip. Use this if you want to do a variety of colors to match the Easter Bunny Peeps toppings.
Add the toppings: To finish these adorable cupcakes, add a peep chick on top of each cupcake. Sprinkle the green coconut “grass” all around the yellow Peeps, creating a nest. As mentioned above, you can also turn this recipe into Easter Bunny Peeps cupcakes by simply switching the toppings’ colors and characters. You can even add a few chocolate Easter eggs. Now, all you need to do is enjoy this with your whole family. It’s that easy to put together these easy Easter cupcakes recipe!
How to Serve These Easter Holiday Cupcakes
The cutest Easter Peeps Cupcakes recipe; once complete, it is best served at room temperature. You can serve it along with other fun treats like mini candy-coated chocolate candies or just about any other Easter candy you have in your pantry. Either way, this will surely be one of your family’s favorite cupcakes.
How to Store Peeps Topped Cupcakes
To make sure your cupcakes stay fresh, be sure to keep them in an airtight container. If you have any that don’t get eaten, I recommend putting a piece of plastic wrap over the cupcakes, then adding your lid before placing it back into the refrigerator. This will help prevent moisture from getting into the cupcake and causing it to get soggy.
Leftover cupcakes can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
Can you freeze leftover cupcakes?
Yes, these cupcakes will keep well in a freezer. To do so, wrap each cupcake with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Place them in a resealable Ziploc bag. Be sure to put the date on the outside of the bag before placing it into the freezer for up to 3 months.
It’s best to decorate your Peeps cupcakes after you defrost them, if you’re not using the cupcakes immediately so the frosting and Easter candy taste freshest.
How do you defrost cupcakes?
I find the best way to defrost cupcakes is to unwrap them and leave them out for an hour on your counter. If you’re short on time, carefully unwrap the cupcakes and place them on a microwave safe plate. Add 30-45 seconds of heat and check them every 20-30 seconds until they’ve defrosted completely.
Are there any other alternatives to the green coconut for the grass toppings?
Yes, you can use green sprinkles if you don’t have access to shredded coconut.
