Thanksgiving dinner can be one of the most challenging meals to put together. There are so many moving parts and so many different dishes that need your oven’s attention. Instead of trying to cram everything in the oven and hope that it stays warm, why not put your Instant Pot to work?

What is an Instant Pot?

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you have most likely heard of the Instant Pot. It is an electric pressure cooker that is very popular. You can make almost anything in it, from hard boiled eggs, cheesecake, chili, soups, and even a whole frozen chicken

This amazing appliance can help you create the most wonderful dishes for a perfect classic Thanksgiving dinner. It can also reheat your comfort foods, making the fourth Thursday of November last even longer.

How do I use the Instant Pot?

It is very easy to get your Instant Pot started. If you are making a dish in a container or baking dish, simply add the amount of water you need, up to the max line. For most dishes and recipes, you only need a cup or two.

Place your container on the trivet or use a sling to make it easier to remove. Add the lid tightly, then make sure the valve is on “pressure”. Set for your desired time and that’s it.

Most meats, such as pot roast,  will do better if you allow the pressure to release naturally. Casseroles, eggs, and desserts can do well with manual pressure release. To manually release the pressure, simply flip the valve on the lid to “release”.

What benefits do I get from the Instant Pot over a slow cooker?

Using the Instant Pot as a pressure cooker means that you can have side dishes, desserts, and meals ready in less than an hour, start to finish. When the pressure cooker time says “30 minutes” that is typically the cook time. You will need to factor in the time it takes to get to pressure, and the time it takes to release the pressure.
