The planning process may seem a bit overwhelming. However, if you’re getting an early start when planning your vow renewal, you can take your time to plan, and make the planning process fun! For me, it was so fun to plan a vow renewal because I knew even more what my husband likes and doesn’t like and I am also more mature than when we got married so I was able to make decisions quickly this time.
It’s a good idea to make a list of all the things you need to do, such as buying the perfect dress to wear and picking out beautiful invitations to send to your loved ones. The biggest thing to remember about this is: that it is YOUR day, plan it how YOU want to and make it exactly how you and your other half want it to be. There is no right or wrong way to do a vow renewal.

Vow Renewal Dress
Picking out the perfect dress is important because you want to feel confident and beautiful in what you’re wearing for this special event. The dress doesn’t need to look nearly as extravagant as your traditional wedding dress, but it should still be something that makes you feel special and stand out amongst the crowd. If you want to make it extravagant, you absolutely can. The decision is completely yours!
You can start the dress search off on the right foot by visiting different dress stores and trying on options that you feel look best. Even if you see something that you’re unsure you’ll like, it’s worth it to try it on because it might look so much better on you than it does on the hanger.
In addition to looking around and trying dresses on, consider where you’re going to have the vow renewal take place. For example, if you’re having it on the beach, you might want to wear a flowing maxi dress with a slit down the side. Of course, it all depends on your style and where you’re going to have this vow renewal in the first place.
For us, our vow renewal took place in Disney World so I knew that I wanted to go with a princess dress for our vow renewal.
Vow Renewal Invitations
While on the search for that perfect dress to wear, be sure to think about the invitations. You have several options for the invites. First, you can make the invitations yourself using an online program, such as Canva. If you don’t have time for that, you can always buy invitations from the store or have them custom-made for you by someone who offers graphic design services.
Consider the colors, designs, and font styles that you’d like to use on your invitations to leave a good impression on those who will receive them.
You also don’t have to do formal invitations if your guest list is very small. You can simply let your guests know where the vow renewal will take place and when.
Vow Renewal Ceremony Script
Don’t forget the importance of preparing your ceremony script. What would you like to say to your partner at the ceremony? You may have a lot of wonderful and endearing words that you’d like to share with your partner to let them know how much they mean to you.
It’s a good idea to work on the script now so that you can thoughtfully plan your vows. You might even want to remember it so that you don’t have to read off a piece of paper in your hands when it comes time for the ceremony.
Pro Tip: Your officiant may have sample scripts to share with you that will help give you inspiration. Ours did and it helped greatly!

Make sure you take the time to make a vow renewal checklist. This checklist will literally save you! It’s great to have a list to look at while you are putting everything together. You can find many wedding timeline checklists online and the same would apply to your vow renewal.
The checklist should include things like:
- When to purchase your dress
- When to have alterations (if necessary) done to your garments
- When to pay your final payments for vendors and locations
- When to finalize your guest count

You will want to think about the songs you want played during your vow renewal, and reception if you are having one. You will likely want to select songs that are meaningful to you and your other half. You can find all sorts of inspiration on the internet!

If you’re a Disney lover and have spent plenty of time in Disney World with your partner making incredible memories, this is always an option. For us, it was a fun experience to have an entire week celebrating our marriage with our closest friends and family.

Even if you’re not a Disney lover, you have other options. Have you ever thought about traveling to Las Vegas to renew your vows? It’s a great place to visit for such an important and special moment because it’s a city that truly never sleeps. Not only can you host your ceremony in Las Vegas, but you can also celebrate with your partner by hitting the strip and casinos or visiting some of the most popular attractions throughout the city. It would be a great way to make even more memories with your partner.

When you’re looking for something a bit more relaxing, a Hawaii vow renewal is an excellent idea. There is nothing quite like renewing your vows in such a warm and beautiful area with vibrant flowers and trees all around. Best of all, you can always check out the Road to Hana while you’re there!
