How to Make Homemade Doritos
1. Prep the Tortillas
Cut your tortillas into triangle pieces using a sharp knife or pizza cutter. You’ll want to aim for 6–8 slices per tortilla for perfect, bite-sized chips.
2. Mix the Seasoning Blend
In a small bowl or large bowl depending on your batch size, mix together all of your dry seasonings: ranch, nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. This spice mix is what gives the Doritos their addictive flavor.
3. Fry or Bake
- If frying, heat oil in a skillet over medium heat to about 350°F. Fry chips in a single layer for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- If baking, place triangles in an even layer on a baking sheet. Spray lightly with cooking spray, bake at 400°F for about 10-12 minutes or until crisp. Flip halfway through for even cooking.
4. Toss in Seasoning
While chips are still warm, toss them in your seasoning mix so it sticks well. Use a large bowl to coat evenly.
5. Cool & Store
Let the chips cool to room temperature before storing them in an airtight container or ziplock bag. This helps keep them fresh and crunchy.
