Fried Okra: Delicious and Nutritious

Are you ready for the best Southern fried okra?

Fresh Okra Salt Flour Cornmeal Baking Powder

Ingredients:

Step 2:

Step 1:

Wash the okra in cool water, and trim off both ends.

Cut the Okra in half inch pieces, sprinkle with the salt, and toss.

Step 3:

In another bowl,  mix the flour, cornmeal and baking powder.

Step 5:

Sprinkle the Okra with the flour/cornmeal mixture, and toss until well coated.  

Fill the roaster about 1/2 way full with cooking oil. 

Step 6:

Heat oil, until hot, about 375 degrees.

Test oil by putting a piece of okra.

Fry okra in batches.  Don't overcrowd the roaster/fryer.

Step 9:

Once okras are golden brown, remove from oil and cool on paper towels. Enjoy!

Other things to consider :

Keep in mind that when working with fresh okra, it can tend to be slimy. 

Okra is fried in batches, and not all at once. 

You’ll have to adjust the heat when frying.
