Easy Irish Soda Bread Recipe

This version is so simple and only requires a handful of ingredients, most of which you probably have in your pantry right now. This soft, quick bread is the perfect complement to your Irish feast!

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until completely incorporated.

Add 1 cup of the buttermilk and the egg to the flour and mix the egg and buttermilk together, adding the flour to the mixture as you stir. Continue mixing until the flour is completely blended.

Turn out the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead, folding the dough over about four times, and shape into a round loaf.

Place the loaf on the prepared loaf pan. Cut an X over the top of the loaf. (Creating that X in the dough will help the heat reach the center of the loaf while in the oven.)
