10 Ways to Tell Your Child “I Love You”

Terrain Map

As parents, one of the most important things we can say to our children is “I love you”.

Listen to Your Child

Give your child your undivided attention. Yes, that means putting down the phone and showing genuine interest in what your child has to say.

1

Make Physical Contact

Touch is the most basic way of connecting and comforting. Make sure you initiate physical touch in any way that your child prefers.

2

CREATE SPECIAL ROUTINES

Aim for small connections and special traditions throughout your daily life together.

3

SHOW INTEREST IN THEIR INTERESTS

Step into your child’s world and show interest in things that they love to do. While playing video games may not be your favorite thing to do, it might be something your child loves.

4

COMPLIMENT THEM

Words of affirmation are a great way to show your child that you love them. Tell them what a great job they’re doing!

We want them to feel safe, supported, encouraged, and most of all, loved. Sometimes, actions speak louder than words though.
