Valentine’s Day Ideas For The Entire Family

Valentine’s Day is next week! Where in the world did January go? I know that it felt like January was a long month, but time really is flying and it’s hard to believe we’re in the second month 0f 2019 already. With February comes the month of love! When we were newlyweds, that usually looked like a nice dinner out, flowers, candles and chocolate. Now, with two kids…we all know that those things are few and far between. With Valentine’s Day being on a Thursday this year, our family decided to celebrate a bit early together. While I am a firm believer that mom and dad still need to do special things for each other throughout the entire year (not just on Valentine’s Day), I also love spending time together as a family and celebrating Valentine’s Day all together. Each year looks a little different for us on Valentine’s Day, so today I’m sharing some of my favorite ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day together as a family.

Plan a Fun Breakfast. This is easier if Valentine’s Day falls on the weekend, but planning a fun breakfast filled with heart shaped treats is a special and sweet way to celebrate Valentine’s Day without going to a ton of expense. Plus…who can turn down heart shaped bacon?

Unplug. As silly as it seems, this is a gift for the entire family. Unplugging gives you the opportunity to spent time together as a family, chat about what your day was like, discuss future plans and just enjoy each other’s company. Sometimes the best things in life really are free!

Get Outdoors. With a 8 month old and a busy 3 year old, we get outside as often as we can. The weather here in East TN hasn’t been the greatest lately and with Valentine’s Day being in February, it is about a 50/50 chance that you’ll have great weather on Valentine’s Day. However, if you do have great weather on the day of love…get outdoors! This is a great way to spend time together as a family. Last weekend, we headed to our family’s farm for a fun afternoon together. Levi took his tractor and spent a good amount of time riding around the field. My parents went with us and we all enjoyed a great afternoon together. What a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

Functional But Fun Gifts. My love language is for sure gifts, so I always try to get our family small gifts at Valentine’s Day each year. This year, I opted for a fun gift that we could all use and something that both boys ‘ooed and ahhed’ over: Bogs Boots! We could all use a new pair of boots, so when Bogs offered to send us all boots, I was so excited! I have heard great things about their footwear and I couldn’t wait to try them out. They did not disappoint! We have had a lot of rain and snow here lately, so the field at the farm was pretty mushy and muddy. I am so glad that we had our Bogs boots on! Not only were they practical and warm, but they were also a fun gift that we can all enjoy for years to come!

While many of us have been working from home or are trying to homeschool and work from home, kids around the world have been struggling to get basic needs. One INCREDIBLE way to help (socially distanced of course) is to sponsor a child!

We chose to work with All Gods Children (@allgodschildreninternational ) this year to sponsor two children from Ethiopia! We have been doing this for awhile, and I am excited to share about this organization with you.

When our sponsorship packets arrived, Levi especially was so excited. Rebecca is still a bit too young to understand, but at 4, Levi is starting to grasp what it means to help others. We are trying to teach him that because we are so blessed, we need to help others when we can. Reading through the sponsorship packet with Levi and seeing how much he already cares for our sponsored children brought tears to this mama’s eyes!

In a year that has been difficult for so many, most of us are still blessed beyond measure. This is why our family is choosing to reach out and help others as much as we can during this holiday season. Would you join us?

Just a simple $40 can pay for your sponsored child’s school fees, uniforms, school supplies, healthy meals, and start a savings fund for their futures. Plus, fun fact, 80% of sponsored kids complete a university education!
