Now that we are over halfway in this pregnancy, I can firmly tell you what my biggest pregnancy craving has been: rest! Having a toddler while being pregnant totally changes the game. Trying to run my business, keep our household afloat and maintain my sanity during it all; the struggle has been real. Recently, Josh and I decided to get away for a few days, just us for some much needed R&R. While searching destinations, I ran across Primland in Southwest, Virginia. I had heard of Primland a few times, but didn’t know much about it. The thought of only being a few hours away from our house and nestled in the beautiful mountains that I love is what really drew me to find out more about the property and select it as our R&R destination.
Getting There
Getting to Primland is easy! We live in East TN and our drive was right under 2.5 hours, such an easy drive for a weekend! Primland is located a short drive from several major cities in the Southeast, including Charlotte. You also have the option of flying into various airports that are nearby. For more information on how to get to Primland, visit here.
Once you arrive at the gate to Primland, it’s still a short drive to the Lodge. It is truly one of the most beautiful drives I have experienced! Gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, various wildlife and beautiful scenery welcome you to Primland’s property. The drive itself is relaxing!
The Lodge
Upon arrival at the Lodge, we were greeted by the most friendly staff! Everyone that we encountered at Primland was the epitome of Southern hospitality. Most of the staff were born and raised in the area, so they not only know much of the property’s history, but they also take pride in being a part of Primland. The Lodge is truly a beautiful home away from home. The furnishings are what I would call modern rustic. You feel like you are in a log cabin, but you have the modern amenities that most people want when traveling. Equipped with the most gorgeous fixtures I have seen at any resort, along with the beautiful Great Hall with twin fireplaces, a two-story wine room, a refined spa, fitness center, private theatre, observatory dome and game room, you really never have to leave The Lodge!
The Lodge is just one part of the various accommodations available at Primland. For larger groups, cottages and mountain homes are available. If you are a thrill seeker- they even offer Tree Houses (this is on my bucket list!).
The Suite
After we checked in, we were escorted to our gorgeous room! The views from our room were breathtaking, but the room itself was even more breathtaking! I’ve written before about how much I love a ‘good bathroom’ when traveling and the bathroom in our suite at Primland is #1 on my list! Featuring a soaking tub, walk in shower, double sinks and BVLGARI bath products, I probably could have spent the entire stay in the bathroom.
Not to be outdone by the bathroom, the living area was perfect for relaxing. We ordered room service on Saturday when I wasn’t feeling well and spent the early afternoon dining on delicious food, watching TV and taking in the beautiful views from our own sofa. I highly recommend the wings if you order room service, they are divine! We ordered them twice while we were there.
Activities
I could dedicate an entire post, or three, to all of the activities available at Primland. While we were visiting, the weather wasn’t the most cooperative and there were really high winds, so we weren’t able to engage in many outdoor activities – but I can’t wait to return to experience those! No matter what you like to do, Primland has something for you. From golf, hunting, fishing, nature walks, water sports, the spa and more, the activities at Primland could keep you busy for years to come!
While we were at Primland, I had the pleasure of experiencing a prenatal massage at the spa (R&R right?). It was truly the best thing I have done for myself this entire pregnancy. I was a little nervous about getting a prenatal massage, but my therapist made me feel right at home and so relaxed. The spa offers a wide variety of services and amenities for everyone.
After my massage, Josh and I dined together at Elements for a delicious dinner and then we headed off to the stargazing tour. This is not something you want to miss while at Primland! With no lights to interfere with your stargazing in the Observatory Dome and an educated staff that is able to point out the beautiful constellations, this is an activity for the entire family to enjoy. The views are truly breathtaking and who knows, you may see a shooting star!
Dining
I have saved the best for last in this post. The dining at Primland is nothing short of heavenly! We ate dinner at the 19th Pub our first night and opted for a more elegant dinner our second night at Elements. We also ate breakfast at Elements both mornings, and indulged in room service while staying at Primland. Each dining experience we had while at Primland was extraordinary. Primland works with local growers to make sure that food is locally sourced, organic and sustainable.
I really don’t think I could pick one favorite item that I ate at Primland, but I will have to say – if you are visiting, you must try their biscuits and gravy for breakfast, their wings for an afternoon snack and the crab cake for dinner. Pair your dish with a sweet tea and you are in for a treat! Being from the South, I am picky about my sweet tea, but Primland’s sweet tea has set the bar pretty high for future dining experiences. However, no matter what you order while dining at Primland, you truly can’t go wrong!
Why Primland?
I have spoken to a few people about our experience at Primland since we left and a few of them have asked me why I feel it’s the most relaxing destination in the Southeast. I really can’t put into words why I feel that way, all I can say is: Primland is something you must experience yourself. Every moment we were at Primland, the bar was set even higher for our next getaway. A fun fact? The winds were so high that the power was out when we arrived and it stayed out for most of the night and next day. At most getaway destinations, this would have caused major issues. Not at Primland! I didn’t even realize the power was off until someone told us a few hours into our visit! That experience in itself says everything about Primland that we have come to know and love: they allow you to relax and enjoy what you love doing, whether it be getting a massage, taking a hike or dining on delicious food, while they take care of the details!

I was hooked by the two story wine room and tree houses. How have I never heard of this place? So cool.
