Here are five tips for making the best sausage potato soup:

  • Start by sautéing the sausage in a pan until it is browned. This step will add flavor to the soup and prevent the sausage from clumping together.
  • Cut the potatoes into small pieces so that they will cook evenly in the crockpot.
  • Add the potatoes, sausage, and other ingredients to the crockpot and set it on low. Allow the soup to cook for 6-8 hours.
  • Before serving, stir in some chopped kale or spinach for extra nutrition.
  • Serve with crusty bread or crackers on the side.

How to Store Creamy Sausage Potato Soup

Creamy sausage potato soup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To keep the soup fresh and prevent it from becoming too thick and heavy, try adding a touch of milk or cream just before reheating.

You can also freeze individual portions of this soup in airtight containers or freezer bags for later use. Thaw the soup in the refrigerator or microwave before reheating it on the stovetop.

I like to freeze this soup in individual serving containers because it’s much easier to get out and thaw this way.

Sometimes you’ll just have a craving for soup and you’re already ahead of the game by having Sausage Potato Soup frozen in the freezer, ready to go!

Common Questions for Creamy Potato Soup

What can I do if my sausage potato soup is too thick or heavy?

There are a few different ways to deal with a heavy or thick soup. One option is to add a small amount of milk or cream just before reheating the soup, which will help thin it out and make it more creamy.

You can also try stirring in some of your favorite veggies to add a bit of extra nutrition and volume to the soup.

How do I know when my sausage potato soup is done cooking?

Using a food thermometer is the best way to tell if your soup is done cooking. The soup should be at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit in the center, which means that it will likely need several hours in a crockpot or close to an hour on the stovetop.

You can also test for doneness by stirring the soup and seeing if all of the ingredients are tender and cooked through.

Are there any other ingredients that can be added to sausage potato soup?

Some popular additions to sausage potato soup include shredded cheese, chopped kale or spinach, and fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme.

You can also add in some hot sauce, paprika, or cayenne pepper for extra flavor and heat. Whatever additions you choose, just be sure to stir the soup well so that they are evenly distributed throughout.

What kind of bread do you eat with potato soup?

There are many different types of bread that can be enjoyed with potato soup, including crusty baguettes, hearty rolls, or warm biscuits.

Some people may prefer to serve the soup with croutons or a sprinkling of shredded cheese on top.
