The holiday season is upon us! Not only is it a time of gift giving, delicious food and family gatherings, it’s also the time of year that germs are rampant. This time of year, I try to be more aware of my cleaning practices and take a few steps to reduce germs during the holiday season. Today, I’m excited to share 5 steps that I take during the holiday season to reduce germs and keep our family as healthy as possible.
Keep Little (and Big) Hands Clean- From door knobs to cell phones, we are all constantly touching surfaces that are germ infested. I personally keep PURELL® Hand Sanitizer in my purse, car and various areas of our home. In addition to good hand washing practices, I also frequently use PURELL® Hand Sanitizer.
Disposables Are Your Friends- My grandfather was a huge believer in this, he never ate at a restaurant that used anything but disposables. While this isn’t necessarily something we practice, I do try to be more aware when we are eating out. If possible, we choose restaurants that use disposable plates/utensils, versus one that reuses them. Even if they are washed before reuse, there is still a potential for more germs versus using disposables.
Use Common Sense- Using common sense also helps to reduce germs, just a bit of forward thinking can keep your family healthier. Taking your vitamins, eating healthy, staying away from people who are sick, all are things that are ‘common sense’ but that, when put into practice can reduce germs this time of year.
Speak Up- If you are visiting family or have people visiting, let them know that you prefer to reschedule visits if they or their family are sick. I know this sounds harsh, but it protects your family and keeps them healthier.
Disinfect and Clean More Frequently- I know, we all have way too much to do during the holiday season, but I try to make cleaning a priority this time of year to reduce germs. I prefer to use PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant for the surfaces in our house, including both hard and soft surfaces. I don’t worry about using it around Levi or our dogs, but I do have the peace of mind in knowing that it kills 99.99% of germs. I also love the fact that I can not only use it on surfaces such as our bathroom sink, but also on our counters where I prep our food. Only $3.65 per bottle at Walmart.com, it fits perfectly within our budget also!
