This past weekend was our Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. We had a blast, as usual! It was a night filled with ugly outfits, great food, family and fun! This year’s party was probably my favorite party we have had so far, it was, in one word- epic!

Today, I’m sharing with you some of my tips to Throw and Epic Ugly Christmas Sweater Party.

Pick An Ugly Sweater (Or Outfit).

Earlier this season, I rounded up for you some of the Best Ugly Christmas Sweaters. Your ugly Christmas sweater is going to be a staple to throw an epic ugly sweater party. After all, doesn’t the host need to dress the part? This year, I went all out-even adding green temporary paint to my hair. However, I was still beat in the ‘ugliest outfit’ contest by my cousin…and with good reason. He arrived in style, with a full-blown Christmas unicorn onesie, Santa hat and bow around his neck. I guess I will have to step my game up next year.

Accessorize.

This year my accessories were a blinking Christmas light necklace and ‘Christmas tree hair’. I used a plastic cup, a bottle of hair spray, some small ornaments and green temporary hair paint to make my hair into a full-blown Christmas tree. It was probably the favorite part of my outfit.

It’s in the Details.

I love planning a pretty tablescape. This year was no different. You don’t have to spend a ton of money on the details-our plates, napkins and cups all came from the Dollar store. However, small details can tie your party together and make it feel like you spend a tremendous amount of time planning the little details out, when in fact-you just made a quick trip to the Dollar store. This year we also did a Facebook ‘live vote’. We posted photos of everyone at the party and let them share the photos on their personal Facebook page, their friends could go cast ‘votes’ for the winner. It was a simple detail that made the evening even more fun!

Plan an epic spread.

I am all about having delicious food at a party, it really does make a difference! This year our menu was: cocktail meatballs, chicken bites, fried mashed potato bites, chips and salsa, chicken salad, my mom’s famous spinach dip with New York Style pita chips, sugar cookies and peanut butter-marshmallow cookies. Our menu was simple, but delicious! Having good food doesn’t have to be difficult or take hours to prepare, it just takes a little thought and effort.
