Getaway to Kiawah Island with Kiawah Island Golf Resort

Each year my mom and I try to sneak away for a girls getaway to the beach near the end of summer. This year, we chose Kiawah Island for our annual trip. It was amazing! This was our first time visiting Kiawah Island, but it certainly will not be our last visit! Kiawah Island is a short 30 minute drive from Charleston, SC and is one of the most beautiful beach destinations I have visited. 

The Location

Kiawah Island is the perfect beach location. We traveled from Charlotte, NC, and it was a short 3.5 hour drive. Kiawah Island is close enough to most major cities in the Southeast that you can make the drive for a weekend beach getaway. Upon arrival on the island, you feel like you are in your own paradise. Kiawah Island is one of America’s Top beaches and after visiting, I can see why! Not only does the island have breathtaking beaches, wildlife is also abundant on the island (we saw several deer during our stay). Kiawah Island is my idea of paradise.

The Hotel

We stayed at The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf Resort is a AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star Hotel. Three words come to mind when I think about Kiawah Island Golf Resort: service, relaxation and perfection. I don’t use the word perfect lightly. When we travel, I can almost always find some small thing that could be improved upon at the hotel or resort where we stay. However, there is not a single thing that I would change about Kiawah Island Golf Resort. As soon as you arrive, you feel like you are the only guest at the resort. Each staff member treats you not only with respect, but also kindness. You feel like you are a part of their family. The staff greeted us by name, anticipated our needs and provided world-class service during our stay at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Check in was seamless, as was every other encounter that we had with the hotel staff.

The Room

We stayed in an ocean view guest room at the hotel. As soon as you enter the room, you notice the luxurious linens, gorgeous fixtures and beautiful veranda with an ocean view. We spent a good amount of time on the veranda listening to the ocean waves. The bathroom in our guest room was just as luxurious as the rest of the hotel. Complete with a soaking tub and large marble walk in shower, it was the epitome of relaxation.

Activities

Kiawah Island Golf Resort has so many activities that you could spend a year there and never be bored. Whether you golf, play tennis, want to explore, or just relax-you will be happy at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

This trip was all about relaxation, and that is just what we did. I visited the Forbes Five-Star spa for a signature sanctuary massage, and it was amazing. The spa is just as luxurious as the rest of the Sanctuary hotel.

Tip: If you visit the spa, plan to arrive early and stay late-you can enjoy the spa facilities the entire day before and after your treatment. 

We also spent an entire day on the beach. Our beach day experience is yet another example of how service oriented Kiawah Island Resort is. As soon as we walked onto the beach, we were greeted by another friendly staff member of the hotel. We were offered beach chairs, an umbrella, towels and bottled water. The staff even set up an additional beach chair and umbrella just for my little one! Throughout the day, the resort staff offered us bottled water, asked if we needed anything and even brought us lunch on the beach!

Tip: Take advantage of ordering lunch on the beach. I recommend the jerk chicken sandwich-delicious! 

To add to our amazing experience at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, we had amazing food. We ate… a lot…during our stay, and there was not a single dish that I did not like or would not try again. I cannot say enough good things about how delicious the food was during our stay! We ate at the Jasmine Porch and Tomasso. Again, the service -world class at both of these restaurants. And the food? To die for. The resort has a variety of restaurants to fit every taste and dietary need.

Tip: If you are eating at the Jasmine Porch, I highly recommend the filet mignon. 

I cannot say enough good things about Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Our experience was perfect. It was a weekend we will never forget and set the bar high for future travels. If you are looking for the perfect vacation destination, I highly recommend Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
