A Busy Mom’s Guide to Getting Healthier

This post is sponsored by Bowflex. As always, I only work with brands I use and love.

Since having our little one, I haven’t had much time to focus on my health (I know, excuses excuses). This year, I am focused on getting healthier. First, let me say this: I could have titled this post “A Busy Mom’s Guide to Getting More Fit”, but I didn’t. My focus isn’t on having my body back I had before having our little one or being a certain size. I have never been a swimsuit model and I have no desire to be someone or something I am not. I am happy in my skin and this year, I am focused on getting healthier. For me, that means I need to make a few life changes so that I can have more energy, feel better (i.e. less knee and back pain), and be able to chase my little one around. Here are a few ways I am getting healthier as a busy mom.

Eating Better.

I am one of those people who forgets to eat lunch and snacks at 8 pm. Not good habits. I am making it more of a point to sit down and eat breakfast and lunch with my little one, along with not snacking or eating after 8 pm. I also have removed all sodas and sweet tea (yikes!) from our house. I am drinking more green tea and water now and can for sure tell a difference!

Sleeping More.

Ok, as moms…we know that sleeping more usually isn’t something we can just decide to do. Our sleep schedule usually revolves around babies and toddlers who can sleep through the night one night and be up 6 times the following night. I am making it more of a point to sleep when my little one sleeps. Instead of staying up until 11 pm and working every night after he goes to sleep, I am trying to be in bed by 9 pm most nights.

More “Me” Time.

I am making more of a point to try and take a few minutes of ‘me’ time each day. Whether that’s sitting and drinking my coffee while scrolling through Instagram, reading a book or getting a pedicure. Me time is so important and I’m a better mom and wife when I have a few moments to myself each day.

Getting Active.

I’m horrible about sitting in front of my computer all day. It’s just a part of the job. However, I am making more of a point to get up and moving. Some days that looks like chasing my 1 year old for 30 minutes, other days that means going to our farm and walking around. Most days though, that means that I head downstairs and use our new Bowflex Max Trainer M7. Since it’s been cold lately, getting outside hasn’t been an option. Plus, by the time my little one is in bed or my husband is home-the last thing I want to do is head to a gym.

The best part of the Max Trainer is that it has 14 minute workout option! I was skeptical at first-how much of a workout could I really get in 14 minutes? Let me tell you-I do have a love hate relationship with the Max Trainer M7, while I’m working out-I hate it (which usually means-I’m getting a good workout). I can certainly ‘feel the burn’ and feel my body working, but after the workout-I am in love with the Max Trainer M7! I love that it’s low impact for my knees, but I can get a great workout in less than 15 minutes. My husband, who is a gym rat, even loves this machine! We both can tell a difference in our fitness level since adding the Bowflex Max Trainer M7 to our house and I am so excited about it. I don’t get as winded when going up and down our stairs and I can chase our little one around longer. I am so impressed with the Bowflex Max Trainer M7 and highly recommend it for busy moms who want to get healthier! A few of the features of this amazing machine are:

  • 11 programs and 20 levels of computer controlled resistance

  • M7 performance targeted programming learns and adapts to each user’s fitness level over time to set new targets

  • Oversized, high contrast, dual backlit LCD/LED display

  • Add-Time Feature:

  • 4 user profiles

  • Syncs with Free Max Trainer® App

  • Bluetooth 4.0 Compatible

  • Enhanced gym-quality, sculpted dipped handlebars with aero bar upgrade

  • Stainless steel, racing pedals

It is so hard to find the time, but so important! This looks like an awesome exercise machine! My goal is to find more time for me to exercise!

  2. Tereza

These are fab tips – not just for busy mums but for busy everyone:) I find that going gym first thing in the morning really helps me because then I still have the rest of the day to do my job! x

I love to see that other moms offer tips to take care of yourself. It’s such an important thing to do and yet we always put it at the very bottom of our to-do lists

  4. Spot on with your tips. Rest is often overlooked, but plays a huge role in how I feel. I tend to eat better and exercise more when I’m well-rested.

  5. Amy Desrosiers

This looks like an awesome piece of gym equipment for the home. We hit the gym daily and I pretty much use equipment like this with a few free weights in the mix.

  6. These are some great goals for getting healthier. I need to do some of these too, but I just dont feel like I have the time sometimes, since I work full time away from home and then am trying to keep up with my blogging.

  7. I know i should be sleeping more and exercising more often. Sometimes it’s so easy to get stuck with the rut of life that it becomes difficult to make time for yourself.

  8. This post is great for everyone. I’m not a mother but I have a lot things working on and sometimes I have such a little time for myself. These are some great advices you gave here. If you take baby steps I think that you can change your life to a healthier one. I try to eat well and healty and to stay active and workout as much as I can. Angel
